Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has warned Kenyans of a new scam aimed at fleecing passengers of their hard-earned money.

In a statement, KRC noted that the scammers posed as Kenya Railways staff, using phone calls, text messages and social media posts to con unsuspecting victims.

The corporation urged Kenyans to be wary of any suspicious demands or activities from the fraudsters who seek the victim's personal information.

According to the notice, Kenya Railways staff would never seek a passenger's personal information such as bank details, and personal Identification numbers to their mobile money accounts or social media accounts.

The corporation also warned that the scammers claimed that their purchased tickets were cancelled and sought personal information to refund the victims with their funds.

"If you are a victim of this suspicious activity, please do not comply with the fraudsters' request to share your personal information."

"Kenya Railways would never ask for your bank details, or Personal Identification numbers to your mobile money account or social media accounts, in order to facilitate cancellations and refunds of already purchased tickets," Kenya Railways stated.

The corporation highlighted the contacts of the fraudsters, pointing out that Kenya Railways communicates to its passengers using official means such as official pages on their social media accounts.

"Please note that the phone numbers in use by the fraudsters, 0202460005 and 0202470005, do not belong to Kenya Railways," read part of the notice.

Kenyans are urged to be wary of fraudsters who target the personal information of unsuspecting victims in a bid to access one's bank account details and online mobile money account.
