It is not every day that you get a second chance when all hope seems lost.

That was the case for Fidelis Wangari, a Form Two student at Kahithe Secondary School, Kiharu Constituency, Murang'a County, who had been sent home over accrued fee arrears worth Ksh70,000.

Kiharu Member of Parliament, Ndindi Nyoro, and Murang'a woman representative, Betty Maina, came to her rescue and settled her fee arrears.

The duo further pledged to continue supporting the student throughout her secondary education.

"I started the day at Kahithe Secondary School, Kiharu Constituency, Murang'a County to take back Fidelis Wangari a Form 2 student who had been sent home."

"Why take the student back to school? Most of the students who are occasionally sent home for school fees have tagged a line associated with poverty that leads to low self-esteem and lack of confidence eventually contributing to poor performance," Maina stated.

While detailing her plight, Maina noted that Wangari's plight was a case among thousands of students struggling with poverty.

"I sincerely felt that a simple gesture of taking back the student to school and paying the fees would help redeem and boost the esteem of the student.

She advocated well-wishers to assist in educating other students who face similar situations.

"We have agreed with Hon Ndindi Nyoro, the MP Kiharu, to support the student.

"I may not do this for all students with similar challenges, but  'If everyone would sweep their own doorstep, the whole world would be clean," she noted.

Outgoing Education Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha, has in the past condemned institutions for sending students home over fee arrears

Magoha urged the principals to be mindful of the harsh economic times as well as the cost of living that has pushed parents to the brink of collapse.
