News of businessman Kelvin Omwenga's death made headlines in 2020 after he was shot in Kilimani by unknown people who were captured by the CCTV cameras in his apartment building.

In the ongoing case at the High Court, a witness disclosed the trick used by one of the suspects to execute the heinous act.

According to the witness, one of the two suspects lured the late Omwenga into a room within an apartment that they were occupying before shooting him dead.

The witness further stated, the suspect came out of the room shouting and disrupting normalcy while wielding a pistol and alleged that Omwenga shot himself.

Notably, the suspect vanished before the ambulance to ferry the victim to a hospital in Nairobi.

The businessman was rushed to the hospital by the witness and the caretaker of the apartment.

Interestingly, the suspect made an appearance at the hospital where Omwenga was pronounced dead. According to the autopsy, the bullet to his left chest area tore through the heart, and the left lung collapsed.

"It is hard to answer (whether the incident was accidental) because that is based on the circumstance. When I look at the bullet, it was a close shot and entered his body at an elevated angle," stated the government Chief pathologist Johansen Odour.

"The bullet exited in his back area after going through his vital organs. It looks like someone who died instantly. With the injury to the heart, he had little chance of survival," he added.

In the witness's words, the suspect was at the Kilimani police station but pleaded innocent. He was also questioned about the murder weapon that was later recovered.

The case is ongoing at the High Court to gather enough evidence to sentence the two accused in the murder case.
