"It is with deep sorrow that we announce the untimely demise of our colleague, Susan Mueni Muumbi, which occurred yesterday, October 25, 2022," read a statement by NMG to its staff and seen by Kenyans.co.ke.
Until her death, Muumbi had worked at the listed media giant for ten years since her entry in 2012. She worked as a Sub-Editor in the editorial department of The East African.
Before joining the NMG, Muumbi worked as an editor at Radio Africa Group, between 2010 and 2012. She had also worked as a business development manager at Electronic Card Services and as a sales and marketing manager.
Interestingly, Muumbi was one of the prominent journalists without an education background in Communication and media but with passion.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Botany and Zoology from the University of Nairobi before proceeding to Daystar University where she was pursuing Masters's Degree in Corporate Communication.
In her social media bio, Muumbi admitted to having had a difficult time morphing into the newsroom when she first joined Radio Africa.
However, her ability to adjust fast, learn and meet deadlines saw her rise through the ranks to become a feature editor.
She attributed her growth in the industry to her supportive colleagues especially her seniors, who held her hand.
"When I joined The East African, I found opportunities to grow my writing skills under the mentorship of senior editors," he stated in her bio.
Away from her professional life, she had a passion for travelling and adventure. She also enjoyed playing golf, mostly in the tournaments organized by the NMG.
