The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Amin Mohamed reshuffled top detectives as he sought to streamline the directorate.

Amin reorganised his team, appointing Nairobi Area sleuth, Said Kiprotich, to be in charge of DCI Operations.

The Director of Forensics, Margaret Karanja, was appointed to lead the Anti-Narcotics Unit.

Nyanza region DCI boss, John Onyango, was moved to the headquarters as the Head of the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau.

At the same time, DCI boss in Kisumu County Francis Wanjau was promoted to lead the Rift Valley Regional DCI headquarters

Amin also promoted Marsabit County Criminal Investigations Officer, Bethuel Oburu, to lead the Central Kenya offices.

Abdallah Komesha, who was in charge of the National Centre for Counter-terrorism, was transferred to the DCI Headquarters as Head of Personnel.

Amin ordered the officers to assume their new duties immediately.

The changes came against the backdrop of investigations into cases of extra-judicial killings allegedly carried out by rogue DCI officers.

Amin promised to serve with integrity and professionalism while adhering to Kenya's Constitution during his swearing ceremony.

"This is a new chapter for the DCI and I want to promise the president and the people of Kenya that I will not let you down. I am ready for the task and ready to lead the DCI to deal with the challenges of our time," he said.

"We shall try as much as possible to work in collaboration with other security agencies such as the EAC, KPS, APS and other actors of the criminal justice system including the ODPP, Judiciary amongst others for purposes of serving Kenyans without prejudice."
