Second Lady Dorcas Rigathi, on Thursday, November 3, announced plans to initiate nationwide financial empowerment programs specifically targeting boys and young men.
The empowerment projects, expected to be done in conjunction with the Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (KUSCCO), aim at giving boys and young men financial freedom.
Pastor Dorcas added that the programmes would also boost the economy.
"As a government, we will partner with Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations (SACCOs) and change the economy from the bottom up.
"The current bottom-up movement started from cooperative movements, " the second lady stated.
Partnerships with cooperative societies, she added, would act as a solution to address food insecurity, affordable housing and other challenges.
KUSCCO CEO, George Ototo, pledged to help the second lady in all the projects she wished to pursue.
"We share in the vision of Her Excellency and her flagship projects, and we assure her of our support.
"At the structural level of Saccos, we will create divisions strategically to empower the boy-child,” Ototo promised.
He also added that KUSCCO would contribute to the rehabilitation of the forgotten boychild through sports activities and other productive ventures.
Ahead of her husband, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's swearing into office, the second lady had expressed a deep interest in uplifting the boychild and the vulnerable in society.
She highlighted that her role was a God-given gift bestowed upon her to implement positive change among the youth in society.
