Japanese embassy in Nairobi offers scholarships to Kenyan students in four different categories.
These categories include embassy based (Monbukagakusho:MEXT), Young Leaders' Program, Japan Study Program and Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO).
The has explained that all application procedures for Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho:MEXT) Scholarships are conducted through Japanese embassy in Nairobi or institutions of higher education in Japan.
Japanese Government is also offering The Young Leaders' Program (YLP) Scholarships to Kenyan Student programs.
This scholarship aims to contribute to cultivate future national leaders in Asian and other countries across the world.
Japan Study Program Scholarship is offered through Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology （MEXT).
A pre-enrollment programme for Japan Study Scholarship is always conducted from March 8 to March 18 to help international students to correctly understand the current situation of Japan through various activities in the Tokyo metropolis and the Tohoku region.
Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) scholarships seek to offer Kenyans and other oversea students study opportunities through international exchange programs.
JASSO has a support system that improves admission procedures by administering the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students, and collects and disseminates information directly to students.
The embassy advises Kenyans to apply for the scholarships directly on its website or visit the embassy premises.
However, the Embassy of Japan in Nairobi through the Japan Information and Culture Centre warned Kenyans from applying for fictitious Japanese Government scholarship offers being circulated via email or originating from deceitful agents.
The embassy regretted that a number of Kenyans have been scammed by crooks who are out to steal from them.
“Please note that The Embassy of Japan in Kenya does not charge any fee at any stage for the scholarship process.
“The process of recruitment and the selection of candidates for The Japanese Government Scholarship Program is conducted at the Embassy of Japan’s premises,” read statement from Japanese Embassy in Nairobi.
The embassy also advised that it only advertises about scholarship opportunities to Japan through its website, and only utilises the available media on case-by-case basis.
“Any information on scholarships coming to you by e-mail should be verified from the information on our website or through writing to our email,” advised Japanese in Nairobi.
The embassy also recommended that candidates for scholarships should get information on Japanese Government Scholarship Program directly from The Japanese Embassy.
