Police organised a special Thanksgiving ceremony to mark the start of its new administration in line with the assumption of power by President William Ruto.
National Police Service (NPS) on Saturday, November 5, announced that the service was scheduled to take place on Sunday, November 6 at the Holy Family Basilica.
Under Amin Mohamed, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations will lead the ceremony presided by the Most Reverend Archbishop Phillip Anyolo of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Nairobi.
“Preparations are in top gear for the ceremony starting at 1.00 pm.
The theme of the Service is “Fear not for I am with you.” read part of the announcement.
Since succeeding former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Ruto initiated key changes in the service, asking the cops to focus on service delivery rather than theatrics.
The president transferred the accounting powers of the NPS from his office to the Inspector General of Police to empower the service's independence and autonomy.
He also ordered the police to announce a vacancy in the position of the IG after former police boss Hillary Mutyambai retired. Noor Gabow was appointed as acting IG until a successor is announced.
In line with the changes, Amin Mohamed was appointed as the new Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after his predecessor, George Kinoti, resigned.
Amin instigated changes at the directorate by reshuffling top officers. The changes were said to be part of a restructuring plan.
It also came a few weeks after Ruto disbanded the Special Service Unit (SSU) accused of extra-judicial killings and kidnappings.
For transparency and accountability to the public, Amin issued out his personal telephone number to allow the public to reach him with ease.
"For purposes of record I'd like to declare my number which is 0722415419 so that any member of the public can easily reach out to me,” he stated promising to work with efficiency.
