Police Explain Why New DCI Boss is Unreachable on Phone Call

The National Police Service (NPS) has explained why the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director Mohammed Amin has been unreachable on phone.

In a statement dated Thursday, October 20, NPS explained that while Amin gave his phone number to enable the public directly contact him, he was unable to answer all calls.

The police explained that the DCI boss was caught up with other official duties but would make a point to call back.

"Owing to his busy schedule and exigencies of service, the Director may not always be in a position to either pick up all calls made to him or return them promptly but would always strive to whenever time allows,

"The DCI reassures the public that he shall continue to avail himself to the public as he addresses their concerns,"  NPS wrote.

In the meantime, Kenyans who have burning issues matters to report to the investigative agency were asked to use the conventional hotlines including those seeking to maintain anonymity.

"We, therefore, appeal to members of the public seeking redress over urgent matters to continue reaching out to police through our toll-free numbers 999, 911, 112 and 0800 722 203," the Service announced.

After being sworn into office by Chief Justice Martha Koome, DCI Amin gave his personal cell phone number to make his office to the public.

The view was a different approach from his predecessor and create a rapport between the public and agency, whose officers have been dreaded by the majority of Kenyans.

He reiterated that he will discharge his duties professionally and with integrity and the reputation of the agency that had been soiled by some rogue officers.

In addition, the DCI Chief promised that his office would move swiftly to deal with emerging crime trends witnessed in the country in recent years.

Nonetheless, he reiterated that his office would respect the rights of Kenyans and the Constitution of Kenya 2010 while executing his mandate.
