Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday, November 6, asked police officers to take care of their families, recalling his early days as a provincial administrator.

Speaking during a thanksgiving service for the disciplined forces, he intimated that the family is an important ingredient in life, thanking spouses of officers for their moral support.

He recounted his time as an officer, urging law enforcement officers not to transfer their command to their houses.

"From experience, don't transfer your commands to your house, it will not work, it will just create you problems." he intimated amidst laughter from the officers.

He recalled his 14 years in service, saying that when he retired and went back home he was met with trouble as he tried to run his home as a command unit and giving orders.

The DP reassured the officers of the government's support as they execute their duties urging them to be guided by the constitution in running their mandate.

"We have professional and patriotic officers in all formations who have the capacity and capability to work in this country," he stated.

Officers were also cautioned against obeying unlawful orders from their bosses, reminding them to follow and be guided by the law.

Gachagua reminded officers that their administration had taken a firm stand against extra judicial killings.

"This government will under no circumstance accept extra-judicial killings. Let us be professional and abide by the rule of law," he affirmed.

He asked the officers to start judging them from September 13, on fulfilling their reform promises as that's when their 100 days in office began.

"Don't count the 100 days from the day we were elected on August 9, start counting from September 13 when President Ruto was sworn in, those days have not expired."

Gachagua, a career administrator, graduated from University in 1988 and worked at the Ministry of Home Affairs and National Heritage before joining the Administration Police Institute in 1990.
