The Director, Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Amin Ibrahim Mohamed was among individuals and topics that generated the highest interest among Kenyans, according to Google's October Search data.
According to the report released on Tuesday, November 8, the new DCI boss attracted national attention when he shared his mobile number stating that he was open to receiving phone calls on crucial information to help him combat crime.
Most Kenyans online were searching for the number during the entire period, ranking him among the most searched items in the country.
Amin was sworn in at Supreme Court on October 18 and made public his mobile number. Due to many queries and calls, the National Police Service (NPS) informed Kenyans that the DCI boss could not answer all calls.
"We also note that owing to his busy schedule and exigencies of service, the Director may not always be in a position to either pick all calls made to him or return them promptly but would always strive to whenever time allows," NPS stated.
Travis Maina, the 2-year-old boy who died after a fork jembe lodged in his head also topped the Google trends in October.
"The boy’s last days culminating in his death while undergoing surgery at Kenyatta National Hospital generated a heated debate over Kenya’s capacity to handle such medical emergencies," Google stated.
President William Ruto's aide de camp, Colonel Fabian Lengusuranga, who replaced Colonel Timothy Lekolool, also excited Kenyans online by featuring in the Google top queries.
Most Kenyans also sought to know the meaning of the renamed Huduma Day, which was formerly known as Moi Day. Mashujaa Day also attracted attention, especially as President Ruto's first public and national event.
Kenyans looking for employment used Google to search for the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, which announced fresh vacancies targeting to hire skilled personnel for various positions.
"A doodle published by Google that celebrated the 94th birthday of Marjorie Oludhe Macgoye, a British-born novelist and poet who came to be known as the mother of Kenyan literature, attracted numerous searches with Kenyans seeking to learn more about her. She mostly wrote about the struggles of Kenya during its post-colonial era, but also published children’s books, magazine stories and much more," google added.
NTSA online portal, specifically the Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS) also attracted heavy traffic in October.
Others included a Kenyatta University online learning portal, Kusoma and term where people were inquiring about different term limits for various officials appointed in office by President Ruto's government.
