Fafi Constituency Member of Parliament was on Monday, November 7, thrown to the limelight after revealing plans by lawmakers to review the presidential term limit and possibly hand President William Ruto a 20-year-rule.
According to the first-time lawmaker, the two-term presidential term limit needs to be relooked and MPs are working to change the age limit such that it would allow anyone to vie for the presidency as many times as possible until they attain 75 years.
If the amendment were to sail through, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who has hinted at vying in 2027 would be automatically locked out.
Political Journey
The lawmaker's political career kicked off in 2013 when he wanted to contest for the Fafi parliamentary seat on a Kanu ticket.
However, his bid was unsuccessful as the rooster party had handed the nomination papers to his competitor.
The Bachelor of Environment (Science) graduate from Kenyatta University was then appointed by the then Garissa Governor Nathif Jama Adam as a member of the County Executive Committee (CEC) in 2013.
He worked at the County Government for two years before going back to the private sector in 2016 when he was appointed the managing director of Fuel Choice Africa.
Salah who also holds a a bachelors degree in Pharmacy from Olso University College from where he graduated in 2008, has worked with different organizations since 1998.
He again vied for the Fafi Constituency seat in 2017 as an independent ticket but lost to Abdikarim Osman who ran on an OMD ticket.
During the 2022 elections, Salah vied for a third time on an UDA ticket and was declared the winner with 5,702 votes against his closest challenger Mohamed Subey who garnered 3,888 votes. Osman came in a distant third.
Following the revelation of term limit debate, UDA issued a statement distancing itself from the scheme and throwing the first-time legislator under the bus.
