Public Service and Gender Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aisha Jumwa has written a letter to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji to have her murder case withdrawn.

Through her lawyer Danstan Omari, Jumwa wants the case withdrawn arguing that evidence presented against her does not meet threshold.

"We have re-evaluated the evidence and we are of the view that the evidence doesn’t meet the threshold,” Omari stated.

Omari added that they had sufficient proof that the cabinet secretary has never owned a gun and so could not have shot someone.

Jumwa’s legal team felt that the DPP should stop criminal proceedings on Jumwa just as it did with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s case.

“It is in the line of duty of the DPP to apply for the withdrawal of a matter before the court. The ODPP has powers to discontinue criminal proceedings,” the lawyer demanded.

Aisha Jumwa’s case has been active for three years now at Mombasa High Court.

She was accused of fatally shooting Ngumbao Njila in 2019 alongside her personal aid during the Ganda Ward by-election campaigns in Kilifi.

While being vetted for cabinet secretary position, Aisha Jumwa also vehemently denied shooting Njila.

"I don't own a gun. I have never in my life applied for a gun. I am clear in my mind that I never shot anyone. I don't know the names of guns in this country," Jumwa defended herself.

DPP Noordin Haji has so far withdrawn high profile cases which were lodged during previous administration citing a lack of sufficient evidence.

"On DP Gachagua’s charges, the decision was made on the threshold. We were pushed by DCI himself through the media. We felt there was sufficient evidence to charge but later we discovered the documents were forged," he defended his decision.
