A video circulating online on Saturday, November 12, of a man being robbed by a gang using boda bodas in broad daylight sparked outrage in the country, with Kenyans urging the police to act.

The incident was believed to have occurred in Parklands in Nairobi, causing a frenzy at a time when the nation faces rampant insecurity cases.

Notably, in the video, the victim was shoved and kicked to the ground before he was assaulted in a mob attack.

As a section of the thugs fled with his bag and valuables, others who were roaming around continued to manhandle the helpless youth.

Surprisingly, none of the passersby offered to help the victim left stranded by the rogue group of men. Several motorists also drove by without attempting to deter the thugs.

Some Kenyans condemned the government for the slow pace in responding to increased muggings involving notorious boda boda riders

Others pinpointed that the video was not recorded in Kenya, noting that the area was not the high-end Parklands estate as perceived.

Subsequently, a fack check by Kenyans.co.ke ascertained that the video was initially shared in Uganda by media outlets and tweeps in March 2022.

ChimpReports, a media outlet in Uganda with 136.7K followers on Twitter, was among the first accounts to push out the video.

According to the timestamp on the video, the incident occurred on February 25, 2022, at around 6 pm on Prince Charles Avenue in Kololo, Uganda.

"One gunned down as security responds to broad day robbery of Ethiopian diplomat in Kololo," it reported

"The Uganda Police have identified the Ethiopian diplomat attacked and robbed by a deadly boda boda gang in Kololo," the outlet added.

Incidences of Kenyans mugged by armed robbers in the streets of Nairobi have spiked in the previous weeks despite the police refuting the claims.
