President William Ruto held a phone conversation with United States Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken on the morning of Tuesday, November 15.
In a statement to the press, State Department spokesperson Ned Price noted that the discussion centered around the ongoing peace talks in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The call between the Head of State and the US President Joe Biden's aide took place on Sunday, November 13.
Blinken expressed his appreciation in the role Kenyan Government is playing in both the DRC war as well as that of Ethiopia.
"Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke with Kenyan President William Ruto on November 13 to discuss ongoing efforts to bring peace to eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and northern Ethiopia.
"The Secretary expressed appreciation for Kenya’s continued leadership in addressing regional security challenges and both confirmed they would continue to coordinate shared efforts," stated Price.
His call came on the same day former President Uhuru Kenyatta jetted out to DRC to oversee peace negotiations between the Congolese Government and the rebels.
During his trip, the former Head of State urged the warring parties to maintain peace and not let foreigners divide them.
"Regardless of what tribe you belong to and wherever you come from, this is your country. Others will come from outside to divide you, but they do not do it out of love but because of their personal benefits," Uhuru stated in an interview with Radio Okapi.
The call between the two leaders succeeded an earlier call, in mid-October, where Blinken commended Ruto for his leadership in the Ethiopia -Tigray peace talks.
Blinken noted that Ruto played a critical role in restoring peace to the neighbouring Ethiopia.
"Spoke to Kenyan President William Ruto today and commended his critical role in regional peace and security in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa," announced the Secretary of State.
