Police officers will soon be afforded an opportunity to air their grievances and recommendations regarding their salaries and other terms of service.

This is according to the Interior and Administration Cabinet Secretary Prof Kindiki Kithure, who spoke during a joint presser with National Police Service Inspector General Japhet Koome and a host of police bosses on Tuesday, November 15, at the Embakasi Training College.

Kindiki noted that improved terms of service would help to boost the morale of police officers in executing their mandate of maintaining law and order in the country.

According to Prof Kindiki, the review will focus on, among other aspects, the equipment, housing and healthcare of all officers.

Also among the aspects subject to review is the uniform which the CS stated would be adjusted in line with the suggestion of police officers.

"In the next few days, the government will be announcing the measures that we are taking to review the terms and conditions of the NPS through a public participatory process that includes everything from equipment, to mortgages, and healthcare," the CS stated.

In addition, Kindiki affirmed President Ruto's resolve to ensure that the independence of the Service is upheld by refraining from using police for political expediency.

He cited the recent appointment of the NPS accounting officer as a gesture that the President was determined to reform the police service.

The joint media briefing at the Embakasi College came a day after another one held at Harambee House in Nairobi amid a surge in criminal activities in the country's capital and its environs.

Kndiki, alongside the top brass of the NPS, vowed to contain the situation through all available means.

The perpetual cattle rustling and banditry in the North Rift was also a subject of discussion in both briefings as President William Ruto's administration seeks to fulfil the pledge of amicably fixing insecurity challenges.

“To the bandits, game on. We are coming to the counties where you are hiding. We cannot have some parts of this country, 60 years after independence, still being controlled by bandits. We are coming for you,'" Kindiki warned.
