News Anchor Lofty Matambo has vowed to continue elevating the Swahili language after his promotion as the acting Head of Kiswahili at NTV.

The news about Matambo's promotion was first unveiled by his colleague Fridah Mwaka who congratulated him on her social media account.

In an exclusive interview with Kenyans.co.ke, Matambo confirmed his promotion noting that he was already working with a broader team of anchors and reporters in creating a Swahili culture.

He explained that part of the strategy included working with newsmen and women as well as other leaders in the sector in making Swahili a mainstay language.

"There are so many plans that I will try to put into actualisation. One of them is making Swahili the biggest thing that it is.  We want people to remember Kiswahili for so many things apart from news anchoring. We want to create a Swahili culture so that we have collaborations with other partners such as book authors and leaders in Kiswahili. We want to see that Swahili is spoken.

"The human interest element should also be prominent. We want our Swahili viewers to enjoy our products because the language is spoken by regular citizens," explained the anchor.

He further confirmed that he assumed the role on November 29, after his colleague Salim Swaleh joined Nakuru County Government.

Matambo joined NTV in April 2021  alongside his co-host Fridah Mwakah after a successful run as KTN News anchors.

In November the same year, the celebrated anchor graduated with a First Class Honours, ending his 14-year arduous journey.

He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Communications and Public Relations from St. Paul's University.

Swaleh, on the other hand, was appointed by Governor Susan Kihika as Information and Communications Technology, ICT, e-Government and Public Communication chief officer.

Apart from Matambo and Mwaka, NTV also poached more top talents from KTN News in the past one year, including Duncan Khaemba, Brian Obuya, Nicholas Wambua, Ben Kitili and Brian George Otieno.
