President William Ruto has instructed Interior Cabinet Security Kithure Kindiki to deploy security to Raila Odinga and his team ahead of the planned nationwide demonstrations scheduled to start on December 7.
Speaking during an interdenominational service in Embu on Sunday, December 4, Ruto sarcastically sent CS Kindiki to Raila to collect the itinerary of the planned mass action.
However, he noted that the security organs will not only provide security to the former Premier but also to the property of Kenyans.
"I have asked Kindiki to ask them for a schedule for their planned demonstrations so that we give them security officers who will protect them so that they do not destroy people's property," Ruto stated.
Nonetheless, the president accused the Azimio chief of attempting to economically sabotage the country, a scheme he assured would be defeated.
"These people do not want the country to grow economically because they like confining people in poverty so that they can rule over them.
"This time, you will know that you do not know (mtajua hamjui). We are determined to move the country forward and you will not hold us back," President Ruto declared.
His sentiments were reiterated by his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua who told the President to stand firm against any ploy by Odinga to force a handshake.
"Raila wants to sell fear so that he can force a handshake, we do not want him in our government. Let him protest from morning till evening," the DP warned.
Gachagua reckoned that the economic turmoil in the country is a result of such an agreement between Odinga and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"The handshake was a bad experiment and the worst thing that has happened in Kenya's 60-year history. There will be no handshake," he added.
In addition, the second-in-command added that any truce will be between the president and the people of Kenya.
