Jamhuri Day is celebrated to officially mark the date when Kenya became a self-governed republic on December 12, 1964. 

The holiday is marked as a historic day to commemorate the heroes who fought for independence, Kenyans gathered at Nyayo stadium to celebrate those who contributed to the development and growth of the nation. 

The theme for this year was: Connect, Innovate and Inspire

Kenyans arrived at the Nyayo National Stadium early for the Jamhuri Day Celebrations marking the day by doing the colours of the Kenyan flag.

 Nairobi County Deputy Governor Dr. James Njoroge arrived at the Nyayo Stadium early accompanied by other officials.

Earlier in the day, he wished Kenyans a happy Innovative Jamhuri Day, adding that Bravery is the key to freedom. 

"Bravery is the key to freedom. We are grateful to the brave men and women who fought for our independence, " Njoroge stated.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua arrived at the Nyayo Stadium accompanied by his wife Pastor Dorcas Rigathi. In his speech, the Deputy President urged Kenyans to concur with the world in the tech-based industry.

President William Ruto celebrated Kenyans for embracing technology and innovation. The first national day celebration was dedicated to the theme of technology and Innovation.

"The promise of innovation is to enable us to connect, innovate and inspire," Ruto stated.

Ruto has stated that 11,000 youth previously working in the Kazi Mtaani program would be absorbed in Nairobi's new greening programme to plant trees at the beginning of January.

"Beginning of January, we are going to hire 11,000 young people to create the army that will green our city- William Ruto" Stated Ruto.

President William Ruto also awarded scholarships to everyone who attended the Jamhuri Celebrations at the Nyayo National Stadium.

 Ruto recognised St Paul's University for its innovative skills and congratulated 29-year-old tech-preneur Nelly Cheboi who was declared the CNN Hero of the year.
