Global search engine, Google, analysed topics and queries that were searched by Kenyans in the past 365 days.
Additionally, the search engine detailed key topics which emanated from specific areas and the time when the search terms were at their peak.
Kenyans.co.ke highlights top queries searched by Kenyans in 2022:
FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022
In the year, as per Google trends, FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 topped the most searched topics list.
The tournament was highly searched on Sunday, November 13, with Luanda, Makuyu, Wajir, Tiwi and Watamu towns recording the highest number of interests.
Top queries included; the tournament fixtures, World Cup Live and World Cup standings.
In relation to the teams that were participating in the tournament, the team that got the most traction was Brazil followed by Ghana as many users tried to keep up-to-date with the tournament.
Others also sought to know the top scorers at the Qatar-based tournament.
Kenyan Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) also featured predominantly in the list as they aired some of the matches during the World Cup event.
IEBC
The Qatar tournament was closely followed by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
In this category, presidential results, IEBC results portal, how to verify results, Form 34 A and IEBC jobs made it to the list.
This was closely followed by the topic of governors in Kenya. This mainly centred on the election of the county bosses in the August 9 polls.
Under the governor topic, Kenyans sought to know the elected governors, gubernatorial results, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) governors, Kiambu governor results, Kirinyaga governor results and Azimio governors.
These topics were followed by Ukraine, Russia, and World.
Personalities
On the other hand, in the 2022 Search results, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was the most trending personality.
He was followed by Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah, Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
In the top five queries, Kenyans went on Google to know what was innovative Gardening, Form 34A, NATO, Freemasons and the aftermath of the Russia- Ukraine war.
"Searches were also made on former IEBC vice chair Juliana Cherera, IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati, nominated MP Sabina Chege and, 100m and 200m sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala, currently the African record holder and eighth fastest man of all-time in the 100 metres after clocking a time of 9.77 on 18 September 2021 in Nairobi," read the statement in part.
Technology
Technology and innovation also dominated the predominant searches by Kenyans.
'In the technology category, many Kenyans looked for information on how to update GB Whatsapp, How to delete a page in word, how to convert a word document to pdf, how to clear cache, and how to screenshot on Windows 10.
"How to pin location on Whatsapp, how to cast phone to TV, how to backup Whatsapp chats, how to delete a Facebook account and how to download apps on a laptop also featured," Google stated.
