In a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) on Thursday, December 15, the recruit attacked his squad leader after he was asked to pick up litter.

Police documented that the recruit got agitated by the orders and decided to launch his attack.

"Trouble started for the conscript after he failed to collect litter as instructed by his squad leader.

"A brief argument ensued before the suspect reached for the crucial course man’s implement used in clearing long grass and inflicted an injury on the squad leader’s head," read the statement in part.

The senior officer was discharged shortly after with police revealing that he was in stable condition.

DCI indicated that the incident shocked the institution given that the recruit was about to complete his course.

"In a disciplined institution where civilians are shaped into disciplined police officers after going through various rigorous stages of moulding, this case was a shocker not heard in Kiganjo in recent times," DCI stated.

The recruit was arrested even as the DCI indicated that he had lost his opportunity of ever serving in the distinguished disciplined unit.

"He was detained at the Kiganjo Police Station for assault while awaiting to be arraigned in court to answer to his crimes," added the statement.

The slasher was recovered after the incident and will be used as evidence in court.
