The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) dismissed reports published by Nation Africa claiming that a former Kenya Defence Officer (KDF) was allegedly chained inside its headquarters for a year.

Through a statement issued on Friday, December 16, DCI argued that the article published on the same day was baseless.

In the article titled I was chained inside DCI headquarters for a year without trial, the former military officer claimed to have been abducted by senior cops who held him at a remand along Kiambu Road.

He also sought justice for being locked up in a dark cell without being taken to jail.

"I have received death threats from those who held me captive. I want the matter to be exposed and those involved arrested," the man stated.

According to DCI, it was unaware of any such person being arrested by the detectives, thus terming the story as inaccurate and preposterous.

"We wish to state that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations does not run a remand facility at its headquarters or any other facility operated by the DCI or the Police.

"Remand facilities are run and managed by the State Department for Correctional Services," DCI stated.

Furthermore, it poked holes in the report, attributing the exposé to a source inside the DCI.

"She did not bother to counter-check known facts on how suspects are processed or seek a clarification from the Directorate’s Corporate Communications & Public Affairs Unit," DCI added.

The detectives called upon the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to investigate when the alleged incident occurred.

Conclusively, it urged the media to promote ethical standards of journalism and professionalism while discouraging publishing such unsubstantiated stories in the future.
