Police, on Monday, December 19, arrested the main suspect in the baby Sagini case.

Investigators claimed that the cousin (26) and his mother who is also Sagini's aunt (Pacifica), gouged out the 3-year-old's eyes for ritual purposes.

Unconfirmed reports further alleged the two suspects allegedly conspired in December 2021 and killed baby Sagini's father.

Equally, detectives at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested the baby’s mother (Maureen), after she visited baby Sagini at the hospital on Sunday, December, 18.

Sagini's mother was expected to be arraigned in court on Monday, December 19. Additionally, she will be charged with parental neglect.

The embattled woman was accused of abandoning the three-year-old with his father and grandmother after she disagreed with her husband.

Police further launched a manhunt for other accomplices involved in the heinous crime. One suspect was believed to have travelled to Nairobi on the day the crime was perpetuated.

Sagini was discharged on Sunday, December 18, on the doctor's recommendation. The Kisii Eye Hospital director Dan Kiage disclosed that the boy responded well to treatment.

Unfortunately, he added that his sight will not be restored and recommended the baby be trained on using the brail system and living with a disability.

Previously, they had expressed reluctance to discharge the boy due to the security lapses at his home.

Earlier, detectives visited the victim's home in Kisii county in search of evidence, recovering a metal road assessed for blood stains.

They also interrogated three suspects, including a form three student, for approximately 10 hours.

Baby Sagini was found writhing in pain on a maize plantation after he went missing for hours.
