Motorists plying the Nairobi - Nakuru Highway called on Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to expand the busy road which they described as crucial.
Following the traffic snarl-ups witnessed on the road over the last few days, motorists on Friday, Saturday 24, opined that making the highway a dual carriage would ease traffic flow during the festivities.
Led by elected leaders, many travelers noted that the road had been neglected over the years.
On his part, Leader of Majority in the Senate Aaron Cheruiyot argued that the government needed to invest more on the Nairobi - Kisumu railway line to ease the pressure of traffic on the highway.
"This is the last Christmas we are allowing you (Murkomen) to get away with westerners getting stuck while headed for Christmas.
"You are barely in office. The next one though, we expect the road and rail sorted all the way to Malaba and Kisumu," he stated.
Other motorists also suggested for huge trucks transporting goods to Uganda be diverted to other routes as they were blamed for being slow.
However, other Kenyans differed with his sentiments claiming that the snarl-up had been caused by the motorists who were constantly overlapping.
"No CS or Government can solve the bad behaviour of citizens. This is self-inflicted. All that is needed is order," Saudi Central Bank Senior Advisor, Mohamed Wehliye commented.
Traffic jams on the busy highway were blamed on the influx of motorists who were travelling to various destinations for the festivities.
The delays forced police to intervene even as the National Police Spokesperson Dr Resila Atieno indicated to Kenyans.co.ke that traffic officers had been deployed on the road to maintain order.
"Police officers have been recalled from holiday. Traffic officers in the affected areas are currently receiving support from their colleagues from other departments," she stated.
