The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection announced that beneficiaries of the Inua Jamii cash Transfer Program will finally receive their payments for the July-August and September-October 2022 cycles.

In a statement dated Wednesday, January 4, the ministry stated that the disbursement will commence on Monday, January 9 at designated places across the country.

According to the ministry, the Ksh8,577,808,000 will benefit 1,072,226 Kenyans who will each receive Ksh8,000.

"The disbursement will be through the contracted Payment Service Providers (PSPs). This payment is scheduled to commence on Monday, January 9, 2023," read the statement in parts.

Additionally, the payment was inclusive of the Nutrition through Cash and Health Education (NICHE) complimentary top-ups for 4,549 beneficiaries amounting to Ksh8,400,500.

All county officials were urged to mobilise beneficiaries across all areas to receive their payment.

This program was introduced by the government to help boost elderly people's welfare, the orphaned and vulnerable children, and those living with severe disabilities in different parts of the country.

"The objective of the program is to provide regular and predictable cash transfers to vulnerable older persons in identified households," the government announced.

Funds from the program are from the government working in partnership with donor partners.

All beneficiaries can access these funds through various local banks which makes it easier to save and withdraw.

In December 2022, Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore lamented that the disbursement of the funds was stalled due to inadequate funding.

She however assured Kenyans that the program will continue after the arrears were cleared. She stated, "We will be seeking to resolve that through a supplementary budget where we will clear all the arrears."

Moving forward, the CS stated that the ministry will process over 400,000 new applicants in the program and will only pay those aged 70 years and above.

Some of the requirements include a National ID and a bank account number.
