CNN journalist Larry Madowo detailed his experience as a black man traveling around the world courtesy of his job.
In particular, the Kenyan journalist who previously worked for the BBC, gave his fans a sneak peek at his experience in China and India.
He revealed how he has gained a near-celebrity status in the two Asian countries albeit with a twist.
“Whenever I visit New Delhi in India, I am usually swamped by random people who keep asking me for pictures,” the journalist posted on Thursday, January 5.
“The strange thing is that they do not ask for a memento because they recognize me from television but because I am a black person from a foreign country,” he remarked.
The Kenyan-born journalist who also worked for KTN and NTV further explained that this does not only happen in New Delhi.
“The situation is even more pronounced in China, where they even bring their kids, and everyone smiles when taking the group photo,” Madowo revealed.
The award-winning journalist was quick to remark that he does not experience the same in every city in India.
“I do not remember this happening when I was last in India in Mumbai or Bangalore,” he reminisced.
Kenyans reacted to his story with a section of his followers on Twitter asking him to make a fortune from the situation.
“You should start charging a few rupees for every picture you take and you will come back a very rich man,” one social media user advised.
Others recounted their experiences remarking they mirrored what Madowo was going through.
“This happened to me in Foshan, China and I felt awkward, to be honest,” Kathy Mumbi responded to Madowo.
She was supported by Mwenda Koech who revealed, “It was the same for me in China, random people wanted to take photos with me with a few asking to touch my hair.”
