Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua capitalised on the three-day retreat organised by President William Ruto in Nanyuki to continue with his transformation journey.

Besides waking up to receive security briefs and engage in various government businesses, Gachagua engaged in exercises to keep fit and improve his mental health.

The second in command also used the opportunity to make petition prayers while facing Mount Kenya.

On Friday, January 6, Gachagua woke at 4 am and started his morning routine with physical exercises.

Unlike others who hit the gym and used the treadmill to shed some weight, Gachagua decided to trek in the company of other individuals within his circle.

Gachagua stretched and engaged in other physical activities by jumping over rivers and climbing Mount Kenya.

Nature Trails

During his morning routine, Gachagua made nature trails where he marvelled over different natural features, wildlife and the serene environment.

"On my way through the Mawingu Trail, I couldn’t help but notice the diverse wildlife around us. The waterbucks and gazelles, against the backdrop of the rising sun, came together to make a near perfect picture," Gachagua stated.

"Our mountains, lakes, rivers, ocean, and forests are a strong link to our roots. This reminds us of the greatness of our past and the possibilities in our collective future," he added in a different statement.

Reminiscence Moments

Gachagua also used the opportunity to contemplate some memories and their lessons. For instance, during his one-hour trek on Friday, January 6, Gachagua crossed River Rikkia, where he recalled Kenya's struggle for independence.

The former Mathira MP recalled how Mau Mau fighters staged a rebellion to break loose from the arms of the British colonialist.

"The one-hour trek that included crossing River Rikkia reminded me of the great struggle for our freedom.  I took time to thank God for his mercy and kindness to the people of Kenya and for giving us the freedom we are now enjoying," Gachagua recalled.

The last session of Gachagua's morning routine included making petition prayers while facing Mount Kenya.

Other than praying for his boss Ruto, Gachagua also used the opportunity to intervene in a number of national issues.

On Saturday, January 7, Gachagua addressed the issue of drug addiction in the country and the vast Mt Kenya region.

"I prayed that God delivers our young ones from drugs and touches the hearts of those who sell drugs to our young people; to change their ways and let our youth become great.

"I believe God has heard my prayers. The Mountain is calm."
