Kiambu politician Kung'u Smart was nearly clobbered on Saturday, January 7, after surviving a road accident along the Northern Bypass.

Speaking after recording a statement at a police station in Ruiru, Kung'u stated that onlookers rescued him after the driver of a car which had hit him from behind threatened to beat him up.

However, the driver escaped from the scene of the accident before the police arrived.

"The driver embarked from the vehicle and started confronting me. He nearly roughed me up, but my personal assistant and other onlookers intervened," Kung'u stated.

"When the police arrived at the scene of the accident, the driver had fled. He was picked by another unknown motorist and they sped away," the MCA added.

Kung'u, who was elected on the Tujibebe Party ticket, affiliated with former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, appealed for police protection.

"I fear for my life because I am not sure what those people had planned. I have encountered such an experience before while driving," Kung'u added.

Other Kiambu MCAs read malice in the accident, asking law enforcement officers to launch investigations into the matter.

The Kiambu politician was driving from Nakuru, where he had attended his father-in-law's funeral. The car wreckage was pulled to a police station in Ruiru, where cops are expected to start investigations.

"The driver who hit me is well known by my good friend and has been moved from the scene by his friend's vehicle," the legislator wrote on his social media page after the accident.

The accident came just days after the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) scaled up sensitisation exercise to educate motorists on the importance of observing traffic rules.
