Winnie de Silva, the mother of a 10-Year-old Kenyan boy who was involved in a chopper crash in Australia confirmed that her son was in stable condition after waking up from a coma.

In a statement dated Saturday, January 7, the mother- who also survived the deadly accident - stated that her son was recuperating at a children's hospital in South Brisbane.

She disclosed that she was in regular communication with her son even though she was admitted to a different health facility.

"Yesterday, I had a video call with Leo, and he gave me a thumbs up and one of his big beautiful smiles.

"He spoke two words, 'my leg', which gives me hope that he is getting stronger each day," she stated.

Further, she promised to join her son at the hospital in a few weeks after her operation.

The 33-year-old was hopeful that her presence at the children's hospital would help speed up the recovery of the 10-year-old.

Nonetheless, Winnie noted that people all over the world had supported the duo through the process she described as difficult.

"I want to thank people for their kind thoughts and healing prayers for my son and myself.  They are helping me stay positive that we will get through this," read the statement in part.

Winnie and her son were involved in an accident after the chopper they were flying in collided with another chopper.

In the Monday, January 2, accident, three people lost their lives while others were critically injured.

Notably, Winnie was reunited with her son in December 2022 after his visa to Australia was approved.

Following the incident, Australian Authorities launched investigations into the incident with a comprehensive report expected to be released in 2024.
