State House Spokesperson, Hussein Mohamed, was promoted on Monday, January 9, in the latest reorganisation of President William Ruto's government.

Sources privy to the matter intimated to Kenyans.co.ke that Mohamed's office was separated from that of the Director of Presidential press and will now run independently.

The former director of communications in the presidential campaign team will now answer directly to the head of state.

Hussein's office was initially liked to the Presidential Communication Secretary (PCS), where he served as deputy to David Mugonyi.

“The Order removes the long processes and streamlines communication in the high office. We expect a seamless flow of information and less bureaucracy because of less and clear reporting lines, an insider disclosed.

The two were appointed through an order in October 2022 following the disbandment of the Presidential Service Communication Unit (PSCU).

In other changes, Ruto appointed David Nzioka as the State House Digital and Innovations Secretary. Itumbi, who held office in President Uhuru Kenyatta's government, also revealed.

"Congratulations to the new State House Digital and Innovations boss. A few years ago we were kicked out. Today you return as The Secretary Digital.

"Well done. I wish you well as you serve bro. Thank you Mr. President," Itumbi celebrated the appointment.

Earlier, Ruto, through Executive Order 1 of 2023 reorganised his government. Among the key changes was making Deputy Rigathi in charge of the coffee sector reforms in the country.

Other changes include the transfer of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) from the Ministry of Interior to the Ministry of Transport.

The Public Health functions moved to the State Department of Medical Services while the Trade Ministry was subdivided into three departments: Investments Promotion, Trade and Industry.
