Kilifi Governor Abolishes Ambulance Charges, Achieves 3 Other Feats

Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro revealed on Wednesday, January 11, that his government had done away with all ambulance service fees in the county.  

In a statement outlining his scorecard for the first 100 days in office, Mung’aro also waivered hospital bills for patients detained in Malindi sub-county hospital. 

These were part of the fourteen achievements that the Governor highlighted as the key achievements that his government has attained in the first 100 days of office. 

Other achievements highlighted by Mung'aro include the distribution of pharmaceuticals and non-pharmaceuticals worth Ksh430 million to 150 health facilities to ensure medical facilities had sufficient supplies.

Within the medical sector, Mung’aro added that Kilifi conducted thirty free surgeries and an additional 436 cataract surgeries in an effort to end avoidable blindness.

 Earlier on, the Governor in October 2022, declared his commitment to transform the healthcare industry by not only modernizing hospitals but also providing them with brand-new amenities.

In addition to that, the Governor included the issuing of 1,800 title deeds to settlements in Malindi; and the distribution of food and water to 50,000 households facing drought across the county. 

“The title deeds were handed over to the settlements in partnership with the National government."

“We began the planting of over 417,000 mangrove seedlings along Kilifi, Watamu, and Malindi beach shoreline," Mung’aro indicated in a statement.    

Furthermore, the Governor revealed that he had restructured and reorganised the county government by appointing chief officers to steer operations and development projects.

Additionally, the governor stated that he had repaired defective street lights and operationalised stalled markets in Kilifi.

Mung’aro also listed the fact that Kilifi county played host to the 1st African Triathlon championship at Kilifi bay in November 2022 as part of his achievements in the first 100 days. 

Other leaders who have shared their scorecard for the 100 days in office include President William Ruto and Mombasa county Governor Abdulswamad Nasir on Monday, January 9.
