Kenyans castigated ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo for putting up billboards in Siaya to welcome President William Ruto for his visit to the region.

Images of the billboards in Siaya elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans, some of whom demanded to know if the CS used government funds to put up the billboards.

On the billboards seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Owalo was pictured with the President shaking hands, and on others, they were seated at a previous meeting.

Others on Twitter stated that the CS could have put the money to better use by helping the jobless.

“He should use the money he used to make the billboards to support hopeless jobless youths in the country,” one comment read.

"Instead of wasting taxpayers' money why don't you channel those resources to meaningful projects? Kenyans are dying of hunger and that should be given priority," another user added.

The messages plastered alongside the images were “ welcome president our people have welcomed you and beloved President.”

Owalo shared the images on Twitter on Wednesday, January 11 welcoming the president to the area for his visit on Saturday, January 14.

The visit will be President Ruto’s second tour of the region since he was sworn in.

President William Ruto is expected to lead a government delegation to Siaya on Saturday, January 13, for the homecoming party of CS Owalo.

On Sunday, December 4, 2022, Kenyans trolled Owalo after he detailed how he had led a relief food distribution drive in the region.

"On behalf of President William Ruto, I have this morning flagged off the distribution of relief food to the residents of Siaya at Awelo Open Air Grounds in Siaya Town," Owalo stated.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja was earlier also irked Kenyans for erecting billboards in the city, welcoming back Kenyans who traveled upcountry for festivities.

The governor however, in a statement on Thursday, January 5, stated that he had used his personal funds to erect the billboards.
