Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called on President William Ruto to stop interfering with the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).

Speaking on Sunday January 15, during a thanksgiving service by Kiambu University and College Students Association (KUCSA) Leadership at the City of refuge Church, Kamenu Ward in Thika, Kiambu County, he urged the head of state to stay away from HELB.

He stated that the greatest problem in the country was in the education sector.

“There is a problem in education sector truth be told and if I was president Ruto and am not here to advise him,  he would call for proper public participation and engagement but I would advise him, please stay away from HELB,” he announced.

He further explained how he benefited during his time in school from the loans given by they government, noting that it is of great help to students now that there are easy ways to access it.

“The real game is in HELB, that’s where the students and the poor benefit from. During my time, I used to get Ksh6,000 and it is over 30 years now.

You are now getting Ksh7,000 out of the balance, think outside the box,” he stated.

National Assembly leader of the Minority, Opiyo Wandayi, had also questioned Ruto's plan to disband HELB and replace it with another body.

On January 5, Ruto announced that his administration would do away with the HELB and instead come up with a different formula to finance institutions

He stated that HELB, Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) and the University Funding Board (UFB) would be merged to achieve effectiveness and efficiency.

“We have a huge problem with higher education. Auditor General already has said almost all universities are bankrupt because they have many problems,” he noted.

He further warned Kenyans not to allow to be ruled by a government of cartels stating that he was still dissatisfied with the August 2022 general election.

“Do not trust the political leaders when they keep on repeating the that the truth shall set you free. There can never be peace without justice.

I have lived through three stolen elections therefore please pray for me to get out of prison. I am in prison. Let this country get out of prison too,” he stated.
