The family of a boda boda rider identified as Nickson sought justice after he was knocked down by a Kanjo vehicle in a car chase.
According to his family, Nickson was ferrying a passenger in Chepkoin Waldai Sosiot in Kericho county when the incident occurred.
The Kanjo vehicle was chasing another car along the road when it made a U-turn knocking down the motorbike off the road in a head-on collision and killing Nickson on the spot.
His passenger sustained severe leg injuries and was rushed to the local hospital for medical attention.
Family members and friends called upon the government to intervene and ensure those involved are held responsible for what they termed as reckless driving.
Some of the questions they asked were why the vehicle was on a car chase on Sunday, January 15.
During the funeral service held on Friday, January 20, family members lamented that none of the members of the county government condoled with them.
They also argued that the county did not help in the burial of the victim.
According to data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), motorcycles and private vehicles contributed to the most fatalities recorded in December 2022.
NTSA also detailed several causes of road accidents including loss of control, careless overtaking, overspeeding, and turning without due care, among others.
The authority shared several intervention measures geared towards reducing the number of accidents, including the registration of boda boda riders in the boda boda management system, collaboration with road agencies in hazardous zones as well as mainstreaming of road safety in the National school curriculum.
