Karen residents have been forced to craft new strategies to address the increasing attempts of land grabbing by a syndicated currently being investigated by the police.

Speaking to Citizen TV on Friday, January 21, Karen Langata District Association (KLDA) official Duncan Munyua, indicated that its members were being trained on tactics cunning individuals were using to claim ownership of parcels of land.

Munyua indicated that there had been an increase of unknown people claiming ownership of various plots in recent years.

In particular, he stated that elderly homeowners were being targeted in the new emerging scheme.

"Strangers appear out of nowhere claiming to own the land of some of our members. This has been witnessed in the last six years.

"The victims are mostly those who are elderly as some of their children are not around," he stated.

The officials explained that on several occasions, the syndicate would pose as police officers, survey homes for elderly persons and move in to claim the land.

In one incident, the team revealed that individuals posing as senior cops showed up at an elderly couple's home and asked them to vacate the premises.

The couple then recorded the incident on social media, encouraging the association to step in.

From the incident, two men were arrested, with one charged with impersonating a police officer.

Consequently, the association revealed that it was constantly keeping contact with its members, who are urged to raise the alarm whenever such incidents occur.

"We keep records to know our members and how long they have been here but there are still attempts," Munyua stated.

Land in Karen is valued at millions. According to a Quater Three Report by HassConsult, a real estate firm, an acre of land was valued at Ksh65.3 million in the posh estate.
