Diani Beach in Kwale County is rivalling Maldives Beaches as one of the best winter travel destinations in the world.
According to iNews, a UK publication, travellers chasing the sun are willing to spend over Ksh400,000 to reach Diani, along the Kenyan coast, to avoid cold in other regions.
Besides flight charges doubling in most parts, iNews revealed that most people are likely to pick Diani and Maldives.
Diani Beach gained fame and the world's attention due to its absorbing picture of Islamic, Swahili and Portuguese colonial architecture.
Labyrinthine coral stone streets, notions of palm trees swaying in a warm breeze and the sun beating on arid plains also contributed to Diane's rise to prominence.
Diani's proximity to Shimba Hills National Reserve made the beaches stand out to rival Maldives, Vietnam, Okinawa in Japan, Argentina and Malaysia.
According to the UK publication, the beach scene in Diani is full of life and colour with coral reefs, tropical fish, and seaweed that can be seen any time of the day.
Activities at Diani beach include snorkelling, swimming, scuba diving and other leisurely activities like exploring the beauty of the beach on a bike or by camel are also available.
"The world is now almost entirely unshackled from the restraints of the pandemic with long-haul destinations now firmly back on the map – but its legacy means travel is more expensive than before," the outlet noted.
Among the destinations in Diani include Galu, which has a tranquil beach with a wide stretch of sandy shoreline and plenty of palm trees. It is famous for kitesurfing and is recommended for families.
Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park near Diani is also ideal for visitors seeking alternative vacation spots.
Others include Tiwi Beach, Ukunda Beach and Swahili Beach together with different Coastal dishes.
