The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Sunday, January 22, arrested a robbery with violence suspect in Nyahururu believed to have been taking advantage of locals.

The suspect was linked to several robberies reported in Nyahururu, Nyandarua north, Olkalou, Subukia, Laikipia West, Kirima, Gilgil, Ol-joro-orok, and Naivasha sub-counties.

Items recovered from the arrest included a pair of plate numbers, six mobile phones, and assorted goods in a gunny bag of clothes belonging to women.

“Crude weapons believed to be used on the robbery incidents were recovered and the suspect arrested in Nyahururu town,” DCI stated on Twitter.

Furthermore, DCI stated that the vehicle used by the suspect had earlier been reported to have been involved in other robberies within Nyahururu.

"When the operations support unit detectives compared notes with their counterparts at DCI Laikipia, they discovered that the vehicle was on their radar,” DCI added.

The detectives added that the suspect had since been positively identified by four victims after his arrest.

Additionally, the directorate revealed that the suspect confessed to committing the crimes with other individuals based in Nairobi.

The directorate issued an alert for the other suspects who were still at large.

“The suspect is at Olkalou police station being processed for arraignment, as detectives intensify a manhunt for his accomplices who are on the run,” DCI stated.

This came after another arrest was made on Friday, January 20, of a man, suspected to have swindled Ksh900,000 from a microfinance agent in Mombasa on December 31, 2022.

The officers recovered Ksh600,000, three mobile phones, and a computer suspected to have been used in the heist.
