A family in Chokaa, Nairobi County, on Monday, January 23, demanded answers from the police following the death of their seven-year-old boy under mysterious circumstances.

According to the bereaved mother, the boy was last seen on Thursday, January 19, while playing outside their home moments before his disappearance.

He was reportedly seen talking to a stranger in the estate at around 4 pm. The stranger, she added, was heard interrogating the boy while taking a stroll around the estate.

The mother was later that day alarmed by her house help that her son was yet to return home after going out to play.

Upon reporting the matter at Kayole Police Station, a night search ensued but the boy was not found. The family later shared posters calling upon any well-wishers to help them track down the boy.

It would take the family and investigating agencies three days to finally discover his whereabouts after residents in the neighbourhood raised an alarm about a decomposing body of a boy discovered in a nearby septic tank.

"I received a call at around 10 minutes past seven that the boy did not return after going out to play.

"The house help told me that he was seen talking to a stranger on the fateful day who was interrogating him," she stated.

A postmortem test conducted at the City Mortuary on Monday, January 23, established that the deceased drowned.

However, the mother cast doubts on the results, arguing that the boy’s body had bruises and traces of blood which could not have been the case if he drowned as established by a post-mortem test.

In the meantime, police officers through the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that further probe into the matter was underway.

The boy was set to proceed to grade three on Monday, January 23, when schools reopened for the first term of 2023.
