Modern Coast Express Limited announced a new route on Tuesday, January 24, that will cost Kenyans Ksh10,000 in booking fees.
The one-way trip will see passengers travel from Burundi’s capital Bujumbura to Nairobi, Kenya - a distance of 1,260 kilometers.
Modern Coast introduced the trip despite its operations license being suspended by The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on December 30, 2022.
“We are the best choice if you want to explore and connect with new friends.
“Travel with us today and we will ensure we get you to your loved ones safely,” the bus company touted their new international route.
Apart from the Ksh10,000 Bujumbura trip, the bus company also gave bus fares for their existing Kigali route.
“The booking fee from Bujumbura to Nairobi is Ksh10,000 while passengers traveling from Kigali, Rwanda, to Nairobi will pay Ksh4,000,” a statement from the company read in part.
Interested passengers were urged to book through the company’s official website or contact Modern Coast Express Limited through social media handles.
The bus company was suspended on December 30, 2022, after it was involved in a series of fatal road accidents.
“Due to recent accidents witnessed over the festive period, I have directed NTSA to suspend all operations of the Modern Coast bus company with immediate effect,” Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen stated back then.
On December 31, 2022, Modern Coast announced that following Murkomen’s order, it would halt domestic operations and offer alternatives to passengers who had booked through the company.
It vowed though to continue with its regional routes as well as domestic parcel delivery services.
