Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Limited introduced a new online service for users to self-read their meters after the 15th day of every month.

In a statement published on Tuesday, January 31, the Self-Meter Reading can be accessed either through an Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) code or their online portal.

The users must dial *888# and choose option 4 on the menu to access the service.

"This service shall supplement the monthly meter reading activities, customers are reminded to always grant access to NCWSC staff to read meters," read part of the statement.

New users must click register and fill in their details.

Once done, verify the email address and proceed to log in.

Click the Self-Care tab and double-click "Get Statement" to access the service.

The service currently available on the USSD code includes the registration of E-bills, querying and paying bills, Tambua Service, Water and Service Connections.

Others include editing of accounts and Nairobi Water Contacts.

According to NCWSC, the new service is part of the reforms meant to simplify and improve the process of applying for and paying for water and sewer connections.

"The Government of Kenya is fast-tracking the reforms to simplify the process of setting up businesses in Kenya; automation of Water and Sewer connections is one of them," the statement read in part.
