In a bid to secure employment, Kirui Cheruiyot, 32, took to the streets of Nairobi to appeal for a job and shared his plight.

Cheruiyot who graduated from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) with a Master's degree in Public Health in 2022 shared his frustrations with Kenyans.co.ke.

"I resorted to appealing in the streets of Nairobi after all my attempts to apply for jobs failed. I had applied to several institutions but nothing was forthcoming," he explained.

Kirui also holds a bachelor's degree in Microbiology and Biotech from the University of Nairobi (UoN) where he graduated in 2014.

In 2008, he scored an A- in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education 2008 from Kericho High School.

However, despite his education qualification, Kirui noted that he was not picky with the job offers he would get. He disclosed that after making the appeal one person informed him of a job in a hotel.

"I have a passion to help people, therefore, I would appreciate a job in my line of expertise but at the moment I am not picky," he told Kenyans.co.ke.

In addition, the desperate graduate noted that several Kenyans had reached out to him with consolation messages urging him to be hopeful. Others shared links to job postings.

Cheruiyot who resides in Juja, Kiambu County noted that his family supported him through his education at JKUAT.

"I had a job before joining JKUAT but I could not juggle the two and had to forfeit the job," he narrated.

He conclusively expressed plans to venture into farming especially horticulture after he gets enough capital for the new business.

Cases of Kenyans taking to the streets in search of jobs have become rampant as many decry the high level of unemployment in the country.

On Thursday, January 26, Samuel Meeme from Meru County made a public plea after tarmacking for nine years in search of employment.

His plea was heard by the county boss Governor Kawira Mwangaza who assured him of employment.

According to data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), the long-term unemployment rate in Kenya as of 2019 stood at 3.3 per cent.
