A local shylock was roped into the murder of a businesswoman in Mtwapa, Mombasa.
While appearing before the Mombasa Law Courts as a witness, the shylock detailed how the suspect in the murder sold him items of the deceased.
The items presented as exhibits included an iron box, blender, juice mixer, and a toaster.
"When the items were brought to my shop, I inspected and recorded each of them before paying the suspect Ksh1,550. He came back several days later with more electronics and I paid Ksh2,020," the witness told the court.
According to shylock, the suspect came to his shop using a different name while pretending he needed money for his wife, who was admitted to the hospital.
The shylock unknowingly bought the items from the suspect and was charged with possession of stolen goods.
Allegedly in May 2022, the suspect killed the businesswoman who was set to get married to her British fiancé and stuffed her in a wardrobe before fleeing with her items.
Her body was found three days later, and her possessions were traced to the shylock's shop prompting the police to take him to the police station for investigations.
The suspect had reportedly booked a room at a hotel where he kept the stolen goods.
Following the incident, the shylock closed his business to focus on other income-generating activities.
The main suspect had in 2019 been acquitted of the murder of a model in Mombasa, after serving a one-year sentence.
The suspect denied all the charges despite the evidence tabled before the court. The hearing will continue on May 15 and 16.
