Police in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, on Friday, February 10, arrested two suspects accused of illegally holding firearms.
According to an OB report seen by Kenyans.co.ke, police officers attached to Kitale Police Station embarked on an operation to arrest the suspects after a tip-off from the public.
Led by a senior superintendent, the police smoked out the suspects, fearing that the firearm would be used to terrorise the public.
A confrontation ensued, leading to the arrest of the two suspects, including a 29-year-old lady, with one managing to escape the arrest.
A further search by the police officers led to the recovery of a "Jericho" pistol loaded with a magazine of 12 rounds of ammunition.
"Upon search in the suspects' bag, one pistol loaded with a magazine of 12 rounds of ammunitions of 9MM, two mobile phones of make Neon Ray and eight sim cards," the OB report read.
The two suspects were in police custody for processing while waiting to be presented in court for charges.
Elsewhere, in Narok County- a police officer with the rank of sub-county commander was arrested on allegations of mishandling a gun.
The officer was accused of negligence and giving false information to the police regarding the whereabouts of the gun.
On Wednesday, February 8, the officer alleged that he was kidnapped by an unidentified gang at the entrance of his residence in Narok, thus losing his gun in the melee in a police report.
He claimed that the gang whisked him away in a Toyota Wish before abandoning him at the Tipis area in Narok County. In the police report, the officer claimed that he was rescued by a watchman who found him lying at the crime scene.
However, further investigations into the case established a new twist which implicated the officer as an accomplice in the case.
