The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) launched a probe into the kidnapping of a Police Commander in Narok on the night of Tuesday, February 7.

A source close to the matter confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke that Narok Central Sub-County Police Commander Frederick Kinaibei Shiundu was found at 3:30 am dumped at Tipis area near a river.

The senior police officer was not physically injured when he was accosted by the two armed men but was robbed of his gun.

He was later rescued by a watchman who found him near the river and took him back to Narok Police Station to record a statement.

"It happened last night. No one was killed and no one was harmed. They just kidnapped him and stole his firearm. He was found by a watchman somewhere and he was brought back," stated the source.

In a statement, Shiundu disclosed that he was accosted by the two men while opening his gate and bungled into a vehicle.

The thugs drove off with the officer and left him near the river where he was found by the unidentified security guard.

"The officer who was still in police uniform states while opening the gate to his house, he was confronted by two men and one was armed with a pistol who aimed at him and bungled him into a Toyota Wish whose registration is not known and robbed him his firearm then drove off towards Mau Narok direction.

"He was dumped at Tipis area and was rescued by a watchman. He was not injured during the incident," read the statement filed at the police station in part.

Shiundu also lost 14 rounds of ammunition alongside his Jericho firearm in the incident.

This came even as Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki vowed to scale up security operations across the country - especially in regions dogged with banditry.

During his 100 days in the office celebration on Monday, February 6, the CS noted that containing banditry attacks and cattle rustling were among his achievements.

He also noted that since the President William Ruto regime took over, security cases within the capital city and its neighbouring counties including Kiambu had significantly reduced.
