A graduate who went viral after begging for a job opportunity using a placard in Nairobi streets is yet to find employment.

The plight of the graduate named Samuel Meeme was first highlighted by Kenyans.co.ke on January 26, 2023.

Meeme, at that time, told this publication that he had unsuccessfully searched for a job for 9 years despite having two undergraduate bachelor’s degrees and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification.

On January 28, 2023, Meru County Governor Kawira Mwangaza promised Meeme a job within the county government.

“Meeme, who went viral after seeking a job using a manilla-inscribed plea, pinned on his back can finally rest assured of job security. I have met Meme today and promised to give him a job,” the Governor announced at the time.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Saturday, February 11, Meeme revealed that the promised job was yet to materialise.

“It is three weeks now since I was promised the job, but no communication has been made concerning the same,” he lamented.

On what type of job he had been promised, the graduate revealed, “During the meeting, I was not given the specifics of the job I will be doing.”

Meeme is, however, still hopeful that Governor Kawira will accord him the promised job opportunity.

“The person who connected me to the Governor has not given me information on how I can contact her for a follow-up.

“I am optimistic that the governor’s office will reach out since I am really struggling to make ends meet,” he pleaded to the Governor's office.

In the meantime, Meeme has been applying for teaching vacancies in various schools.

“I have applied for a Board of Management (BOM) teaching vacancy at a school in North Eastern and I am waiting for feedback,” he revealed.
