Seasoned investigative journalist Dennis Okari revealed that he would be starting a new programme aimed at highlighting financial matters including forex trading.

Speaking during an interview with Adelle Onyango on the Social Newsroom, on Tuesday, February 14, Okari stated the show was inspired by lessons he had learnt through the financial mistakes he had made as well as his successes.

The former NTV reporter and anchor stated that sharing his journey would help others shape their lives, noting that there was more to who he was than the investigative journalist that everyone knew.

Additionally, the veteran journalist explained that the move was a way of continuing his passion for knowing and listening to other people’s stories.

“People know me as Dennis Okari the investigative journalist but I have been building other things around myself. That is what I do but that is not who I am.

“I am very passionate about knowing people and hearing their stories, but getting into the world of economy, I discovered that a lot of young people especially men are not taught about savings,” Okari stated.

Giving an example of one of the biggest financial mistakes he made during his youth, Okari regretted taking a loan to buy a car at 25.

“Sometimes I look back and wish I had not done certain things like taking a loan at 25 to buy a car just because I had a job.

“That was a terrible mistake. If I had someone to advise me I would not have done that,” noted Okari.

Explaining the reason for the new move, Okari opined that many Kenyan youths had the wrong perception of savings and managing their finances, especially when making life-changing decisions

“What I discovered was that a lot of people do not go through the lessons that address that practical part of life.

“They don't think that they need to save and work hard. I am already thinking of the inheritance I will leave my children,” the journalist added.

He also noted that there were many scammers who presented themselves as forex trading experts but con  unsuspecting Kenyans, adding that he wanted to share the knowledge he had gathered from his experience in the venture.

“I am privileged to have a lot of information on forex trading that people do not have. I want to share that with people who want to listen and if someone wants to pay me for that too then why not,” Okari stated.

Moreover, Okari revealed that the interview with renowned media personality Adelle Onyango had inspired him to share stories about himself and his perspective of the world

“What has encouraged me from Adelle's conversation is that podcasting can also be birthed not just from a place of inspiration but also from what your heart really feels.

Earlier in December 2022, Okari revealed the launch of the Social Newsroom podcast with renowned journalist Mark Masai, a week after NTV sacked the duo.
