Traffic along the Southern Bypass in Nairobi was disrupted after a truck caught fire on the morning of Thursday, February 23.
Both ends of the usually busy highway were closed as security agencies cordoned off the area.
Consequently, motorists were left stranded with some opting for alternative routes to get to their respective destinations.
Videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed a huge cloud of dark smoke ascending from the scene with a fire engine yet to arrive at the scene.
Meanwhile, traffic safety agencies advised motorists using the Highway to seek alternative routes to their destinations.
No casualty was reported by the time of this publication. The cause of the fire was also yet to be established.
Elsewhere, road users using the Thika Superhighway from Nairobi were left stranded on Thursday, February 23, the morning after a truck rolled over and fell across the two-lane road at the Chania River Bridge in Thika.
Witnesses reported that the jam extended more than one kilometre from the Blue Post Hotel area to the Witethie area along the Thika Highway.
In the photos sent from the scene, parts of the truck fell off into the river with onlookers left without much help to offer in the situation.
Access to Thika Town and the Thika-Garissa Highway was disrupted owing to the snarl-up caused by the truck.
The two accidents came at height of concerted efforts from various stakeholders aimed at alleviating the road accidents menace in Kenya.
According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the number of fatalities from road accidents in 2022 was 4,432- which was an increase from the previous year's 4,271.
