An elderly man from Bungoma County travelled 412 kilometres to Ruiru in Kiambu to secure a chance for his granddaughter, identified as Nekesa.

The grandfather went to Affecto Foundation, established by Ndungu Nyoro, for a scholarship for his granddaughter.

According to a statement on Monday, February 27, Nyoro noted that the grandfather had admitted Nekesa to St Marys Girls Mumias with only Ksh2,000.

However, after only two days, she was sent home to collect school fees to facilitate her stay.

Nekesa was forced to stay home with little to no hope of joining high school until Nyoro and other well-wishers rescued her.

"On Saturday, February 25, Babu and his granddaughter were invited to the Affecto office. They travelled from Bungoma and arrived early in the morning,"  Nyoro stated.

"They were assured that Nekesa will be supported all the way until she clears high school," he added.

According to the statement, the grandfather never went to school and wanted his daughter's children to get the best education.

Nekesa sat the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and scored 364 marks, hoping to join the high school of her dream

After the meeting, the grandfather prayed for blessings to those in the office.

Following the incident, several Kenyans joined hands and raised funds for the young girl through the contact details shared by Nyoro.

"May God send your way heavyweight financial supporters for this worthy cause," one stated.

Affecto foundation is a charity organisation in Ruiru that nurtures responsible young adults. It has sponsored several needy children in the country with the help of other well-wishers.
