Nanyuki High School has, once again, emerged as the most preferred secondary school by candidates of the recently released Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
While announcing secondary school placement on Monday, April 11, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha noted that the school attracted a total of 156,003 applications from the interested pupils.
The institution, which is located in Laikipia County, however, has a capacity of only 400 form one slots.
Kabianga High School followed with 149,087 applications and Pangani Girls High School came in third with 118,073 applications. Maseno High School recorded 110,811 applications while Nakuru High School recorded 107,915 applications.
This is the second year in a row that Nanyuki High School has emerged as the most preferred countrywide after it attracted 154,524 in 2021.
Classified as a public secondary school, Nanyuki High is funded by the National Government and like any other public school, has a Board of Management as well as the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA).
In recent years, the school has emerged among the top nationally and featured a candidate in the 2019 Top 100 KCSE performers. In 2020, it was ranked the second-best school in Laikipia County.
The 2021 KCPE top candidate Bruce Magata Mackenzie was admitted to Alliance High School.
During the event, Magoha also noted that the number of students who sat for the exam outweighed the available slots which will force some schools to admit more students.
All the candidates were placed in 9,200 public schools. The CS promised that the Ministry of Education will work with the Interior counterpart to ensure that all learners join secondary schools under the 100 per cent transition policy.
Magoha also noted that 38,797 KCPE candidates were admitted to national schools while 214,960 were placed in extra county schools.
Of the Over 1.2 million students who sat for the exams, 258,456 went to county schools, 726,311 in Sub-county schools and 2,045 in special needs schools.
