Police officers launched investigations into the death of a matatu driver, whose body was discovered in a car by his colleagues in Mwingi, Kitui County.
According to other matatu businessmen in the area, the man was found on Tuesday morning, February 28.
They claimed that the driver was attending to his duties and had transported passengers to different parts of Mwingi on the same day.
Moreover, they alleged that he did not show any signs of illness that could have led to his death.
“The driver was my friend, and we worked for the same Sacco. Yesterday we were with him, and he was in good health.
“I was called in the morning by a boda boda rider who told me that he had been found dead in the car he had been driving,” one of the drivers stated.
According to the Sacco representative in charge of issuing PSVs to the drivers, the deceased was issued with a vehicle which he returned after discharging his duties.
“I gave him the vehicle yesterday when he was okay. He did not complain of having any pain.
“We know that he went for the trips and came back alive, so we are as shocked that he passed on,” the spokesperson stated.
Representatives of the matatu Sacco alerted the police when they discovered the body, which was later ferried to a local mortuary.
"When we found his body in the morning, we immediately called the police who are still looking into the matter," the businessmen stated.
Police were expected to release a preliminary report on the case.
